Wildernesse House

Situated on the historic Wildernesse estate in Sevenoaks, Kent, Wildernesse House has a history dating back to the twelfth century.

Renowned architects, Purcell, set about a careful restoration of the main house, while landscape architects Camlins laid out plans for the grounds. It was through conversations with both sets of architects, along with additional research carried out in the British library, that we began to piece together the history of the estate.

Key details began to emerge, including the fact that the row of lime trees lining the entrance drive were planted in 1815 to celebrate a visit from the Duke of Wellington; and that the Spanish chestnut trees still standing in the grounds were planted in celebration of Henry VIII’s marriage to Catherine of Aragon in 1509.

It was this rich history that provided the positioning for the development. People were invited to ‘Be part of the next chapter’: to celebrate the estate’s past and help create its future.

This positioning was applied across all platforms: the lead ads featured famous characters from the estate’s history; the four ground-floor apartments were named after previous owners of the estate; and a book was created to document the history of Wildernesse House in its entirety.
